Hi folks
This is a personal request, but work related too. I'm considering getting a DAF but I really need to drive one first before I can decide whether its for me or not. Nowt worse than travelling all over the country to see a car and then deciding that it just isn't for you! I've got a 2CV so my preference is for one of the earlier twin-pot DAFs but any variomatic would suffice. I've definitely got tastes for the feeble and unusual!
The next point is that I work on Classic Car Weekly and while our chums at Practical Classics may have beaten us to it, we'd also like some Variomatic action! As PC have focussed on the 33, we'd like to try and find a Renault engined DAF for that feature if possible, for photos and the like. Feature isn't for some weeks so no immediate rush but if you're over Peterborough way and can make your car available during the week (we'll come to you) then do let me know!
Anyway, hope someone can help with all of that!
Cheers
Ian Seabrook

Sorry, can't get to Wales. Has to be closer to Peterborough due to our terrifying weekly deadlines!
Could well go for a 44 for the article but in essence, I'd like to cover all variomatics.

Hello Ian,
Glad to see that at last, after years of seemingly been forgotten, DAFs are getting noticed again by the mags! Fortunately they are being taken seriously now, having endured years of uncalled for "Skoda-esque" rubber band jokes.
Now then, one of our contributors on here is looking to sell his 33. He has just bought one of our member's very nice 66 coupe, so the 33 has to go. It needs an idle control valve apparantly, which someone should be able to get. He's in Newbury though, a bit further down south than you. Check out the Sales and Wants for info. I've also sent him an email alerting him to your note.
Re trying a DAF. I own the 33 (and took the pics!) that appeared in PC. I live between Nottingham and Melton Mowbray, which although not in Cambs, is sort of on the way. Perhaps you'd like to meet up "halfwayish", maybe Rutland Water (like it there and nice location for shoots etc) sometime and have a pootle round the carparks etc?
Anyway, good luck with the search.
Richard

Hey Alex - another one? Never mind. Well done though. I'm sure another DAF will appear for sale soon.

Darn, I was keeping an eye on that 33 myself! Not quick enough! Richard - meeting up somewhere sounds good. I'll have a look at my calendar when I'm in the office tomorrow and see if we can't set something up.
