Is there normally a servo on the 33 Brakes? The Factory workshop manual seems to show one on the brake schematic diagram but makes no reference to it in the text.
There certainly doesn't seem to be one on my 1972 Van and the brakes feel as if they need one!
If there is not one normally fitted, is it possible to retro-fit one off another model?
Regards,
Pete.

Yes it's single circuit brakes.
I'm not familiar with the 66. so can't guess at whether it would fit.
The layout in the 33 workshop manual seems to be a standard type of master cylinder with a remote servo. Presumably the servo is actuated by the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder.
Is the 66 a similar arrangement and would the servo be relatively easy to mount?
Or is the 66 servo operated directly by the pedal?
Can't understand why the manual shows a servo. Does anyone know if any of the 31/31/33 series had them fitted ?
Regards,
Pete.

Thanks for that info. I'm pretty sure the brakes are fundamentally ok. My No. 4 son fitted new cylinders, linings and a load of new pipework etc. for its test last year. Pedal is not soft or anything. Just seems to take an awful lot of pressure after getting out of a modern car.
More a case of making it more user friendly for the Mrs.
That Stafford website looks quite useful.
I would fit a new unit at a pinch but want to explore all other options before I spend that kind of money!
Regards,
Pete.

Yes, that's the bit I was looking at. It also shows a similar layout on the previous page (6-1).
It looks as if the "servo"? bit was designed to fit on the sloping part of the bulkhead somewhere above the master cylinder.
If they were in fact never fitted to 33s I wonder if that servo was fitted to another model?
Regards.

Well done John.
Thanks for that enlightenment. It's not a brake servo!
Now that I know what the "Master vaccuum chamber" is for I have managed to find a bit of info in the manual. You have to be Sherlock B. Holmes to find some things!
My 33 must have the later type of control.
Thanks again.
Thanks Mac for that pic of the "66" servo. I guess I'll start looking for one of those now!
Regards,
Pete.
