Okay, so I'm off to look at a DAF (a 44, not a 33, but hey ); has anyone got any tips for what to look for? I'll probably be way more strict than I would for my own car, 'cos it's for my partner; but.... I had a nose round the internet and can't find any great resources on where they rust / where it's important if they rust / etc...

Thanks for that; am I right in thinking that body panels are pretty hard to come by? I saw a post saying that sills are available (not that I have any desire to test the welding skills I'm hoping to gain on the viva by repairing some poor Daf)...
How about mechanical parts availability?

Body and trim parts are rather hard to get.
Essential mechanical bits and bobs are available from/via the club.
Putting 2 and 2 together, are you chasing that free 44 that's been put on here?

hi.
sounds like my 44 as well.
the only other real problems on mine were the trackrod ends giving play in the steering (now fixed) and the front springs were quite weak- just touching the bump stops (now servicable but will probably need new by next mot).
trackrods are easy but springs would have to be made. i was thinking about that free 44 myself but i dont know if the wife will let me have another one.
good luck.
hope to hear more from you on the forum.

"Putting 2 and 2 together, are you chasing that free 44 that's been put on here? " Yep, that's the one, off there later today. Free's my favourite price; although the welding's a bit of a worry so I'll have to go look and see. I'm hoping to learn some basic welding (with a MIG) this year, 'cos the poor old Viva's got some holes which need fixing and a guy from the VVOC offered to help me repair it / teach me to weld at the same time. So... Eitherway, I'll snap some shots of it (if I remember my camera), so if I don't take it the rest of you folks know what state it's in

Hi Kate, I'm in Luton so if you need a hand with anything or second opinion to have a look at it then I could meet you there or something. The 44 is in Gatwick, isn't it? I'm free tomorrow and Weds. Alex
