I've done it! I've only DONE it! No, nothing that I'm likely to end up on a register for-I've bought a Daf 33! This one might be known to members of the club and I'll try to post a few pictures at some point. I drove it down from Skipton yesterday and I'm glad to say the car performed faultlessly, averaging over 50 M.P.H. on a run of over 250 miles in 5 hours in weather that can only be described as terrible! I know the Daf club has a strong following in the Derbyshire area and those of you in that and surrounding counties must have noticed the rain and wind yesterday afternoon & evening. This little car kept up with all the traffic with ease and passed quite a few lesser vehicles! One of many humorous events was when I overtook a Dutch registered Daf truck (a HUGE one!) only to be greeted with a blast of the loudest air horns i've ever heard! The heater is brilliant and the lights, wipers and brakes are well up to every day use, too!
I've rented a garage in which to store it and there's a few jobs to do on it, not least getting the tick-over right (it's a fraction too low at the moment) but everything's basically excellent! I'll keep the forum informed of developments. I admit to "living the dream" as I'm now partially retired and my first car, back when I was 17 (I'm now almost 57!) was a Daf 33, so I HAD to buy one, didn't I?
(Can't get pictures loaded-size too big-HELP; what am I doing wrong?)

Good grief! (Nearly falling off chair suitably amazed and delighted!)
Wow - well done. And who of us oldie DAFfers can forget you and your 33 (and clogs) from all those years ago?
Yes, I can concur re yesterday's rain and wind - I was doing some (coincidentally) tickover/mixture adjusting too.
Regarding pics - try reducing the file size/resolution of the pics. The chances are that your camera has saved them as big jpg files (e.g 1mb or more) If you can, re-save them on your computer at a smaller size, then try posting on here again.
Alternatively, set up a Yahoo/flikr photo storage account, then simply link on here.
And better still, of course, save the best and words to make a good story for a magazine next year...
Talking of which, December's mag is currently being printed, and the next issue after (in March) I plan to do a feature about 33s, because next year will be 50 years...)
Good timing eh?!
Well done again - really pleased for you - and your new car who we can be assured has gone to someone who really knows what it's all about.
Funnily enough, Steve and I were talking about you the other day - he popped over and saw the manuals you got for us.

Just a quick update: I've refuelled the Daf today after its exertions travelling from Yorkshire to London and I'm pleased to say the car's MPG was over 38.7! Bearing in mind it was averaging over 50 mph, and at times did 75+mph & I am totally impressed!
I've done a few little jobs to the car, including fitting the obligatory yellow headlamp bulbs; whilst fitting them I noticed the LHD/RHD selector was set for LHD! I corrected both of them & re-alligned the headlamps. While examining the previous MOT certificates I jotted down the annual mileage, which averaged less then 500 per year-if fact some years it covered less than 250 miles. This means that in the run from Yorkshire to London last weekend in 5 hours the car covered more then it had covered during the past year! Pretty good, eh?
Quick update: the headlamps WEREN'T incorrectly adjusted! I've just been out for a night time drive to check things & the lights are now pointing the WRONG way, so I'll be re-setting them again tomorrow!

Hi, well done, looks a nice 33. Ref. tickover, make sure the engine revs. increase when the brake pedal is depressed at tickover....starider Absolutely! This shows that the mixture set up is all correct. Likewise, when you press the low ratio hold switch on tickover, the revs should go up a bit. This applies to all DAFs. And just for Andrew, here is a yellow bulb! (Actually supplied by Andrew many years ago)

Hi, I agree with Richard re. the mixture, but the main reason for the increase in revs is to ensure the clutch remains engaged to low speed to give some engine braking when slowing down to stop. From memory[without finding a service booklet] the three main items in a 3000mile service were:- change engine oil: adjust the drive belts and adjust vacuum valve.............starider
