Well, I'm stuck at home, although I'm not self-isolating, I'm just following the Government advice. What to do.... Well, it SHOULD be Daf related, but COULD be anything....
My good lady wife and I have established a routine over the last few days, in an effort to provide a structure. I still work, albeit part time, and am deemed to be an "essential worker" at an airport. I will therefore be working on Thursday and Friday this week. For the other days, we've made sure we're up at a reasonable time and draw up a list of things that need doing; some gardening, some home repairs and some tidying, all of which give structure to the day. Shopping is reduced to the minimum, and we're using ONLY a few local shops, including a family-run organic butcher, a Cypriot greengrocers and (occasionally) a Tesco Metro. So far we've survived and haven't run out of anything!
The Daf hasn't been ignored either. Although I can't really drive it on the road, as my journeys to & from work are done in my Subaru, I've done a huge number of jobs on it that I've been meaning to do for ages... Any other 33 driver annoyed by the wiper switch, which turns ANTI-clockwise to switch the wipers on, when logic would dictate it should go CLOCKwise? Well, mine now does! I've also fitted relays to switch the main and dipped headlights on, to save too much current going through the headlight switch on the dashboard. and using a third relay, powered by the ignition live line, the headlights now go off when the ignition's turned off. I've also fitted an electric screen washer.
Doing these little jobs ("pottering" my wife calls it) has helped me to face the enforced "house arrest" we are all currently under at the moment. Tomorrow I'm tackling another mechanical nightmare; the lawnmower....wish me luck!
The important thing in these difficult times is to keep one's spirits up and have a positive outlook on things. We WILL make it through this!
