Hi All.
I have just joined the forum, and have some questions.
A bit of a long story, but my mate had an engine on a stand which had been used to power an air compessor. On looking closer I saw it was from a Daf (because it was written on the rocker cover) and thought it was from a Variomatic. I have seen some early Daf's at shows, but have never really had anything to do with them.
I did a deal with my mate and brought the lump home. A bit of research on the net identified the engine as a 1108cc Renualt with solid flywheel and cage with pully to power the variomatic box.
With a risk of being hung, drawn and quartered, I have to admit that I would like to use the engine in a trike, either at the back like a VW, or more likely in the front. Which ever way I will need another flywheel and clutch. I have several options then, which are to either find the ally bellhousing from the Renault four or five gearbox, and bolt a rear-facing box to that, or find a Volvo 340 bell houseing/cone which looks like it will bolt straight on.
I would like to ask if anyone has a flywheel and clutch assembly, or if there are any spares companies still selling them? If things work out I will not need the original flywheel, or cage and would offer them to members.
Thank you.
Regards. Doug Smith. Cardiff.

Hi That engine was used in the 55 and 66, it had different clutch for each car and different bell housing iirc. If you post the engine number someone will probably know which of the two it came out of. The 55 had multiple clutch shoes, and the 66 had a clutch which looked like a modern type. You won't be hung, drawn and quartered :-) Most of us are glad to see some clever use of DAF bits n pieces.

Thank you Andrejuan. I have been playing around with Reliant engines for years, and have two in my shed which I was going to make one good one for a trike. It was just the way things turned out that I came across this one, with five main bearings , fifty-odd horses and not much bigger in size than a Reliant lump.
Engine plate reads B110 B9155* (star)

Hi Doug..
Welcome to the club..
I remember this engine when it was advertised on e.bay..it's a 55 engine..
The clutch on 55's,apart from Marathon's,are the shoe type but can easily be converted to a plate..normally using a 66 bell housing..
I have seen Daf varios put in trikes before but not an engine..probably better off using a Volvo 340 1.4 engine and manual box..but if you decide to keep the 55 engine,I can probably help with a bell housing..

Matt.
Thank you for the offer of the bell housing. I am keeping the engine as it was part of the deal that I finish a vehicle for once.
I have a habit of getting bored with projects, but promised that I would see it through this time.
Could you please contact me at- reliantman2002@yahoo.co.uk to sort it out.
Cheers. Doug
