Hello all,
As a person new to Daf's and forums, but having found interesting articles on this forum, it seems a very good place to come for advice and information about modifying a Daf 44 to use in Classic Car Trials in the UK. The attraction to me of the 44 is the small size, closed body, rear wheel drive car with no differential hence allowing greater traction under slippery, muddy, off road conditions; hopefully all at the lower end of costs. My plan is to change to a modern injected injected small engine - around 90/100 bhp and torque greater than 100Nm from 2000rpm. Currently I have a small Liege fitted with a Toyota 1KR-FE 998cc (Aygo engine) using throttle bodies; it is an open car and 6 hours in UK rain gets a bit tedious for old men! - - hence my wish to change. I am told the Renault B series engines use the same mountings as the 44; do the the Renault 3 cyl TCE engines also use the same mountings? Has anyone any experience of other suitable small engines for a 44? BMW bike Boxer engines? Torque is more important than high revving power. Much appreciate any comments/advice - as a new forum user please forgive any incorrect procedures. I am happy to conduct private conversations (when i have learnt how to!) in order not to bore people with the details in my enquiry. Also interested in things like running 15 in wheels to increase ground clearance and suitable clutch arrangements etc. Regards Chris.
