I'm slowly ploughing through a file of Daf Service bulletins I recently acquired, in which there are several pages dedicated to a "Daf Passenger Car Rally Version", which is numbered 327, this making it a version of the Daf Daffodil, with which I'm sure we're all familiar (The Daf Daffodil has the model number designation 322). The "rally version" has different front seats, seat covers, quarter lights, parcel shelf and armrests, as well as a "S" emblem on the rear boot lid. In addition, the engine blocks are stamped "RA"
There are loads of other differences-too any to list here-including different dashboards, gauges and temperature sensors, but my interest lies in seeing one. They were built in right hand drive form for the British market, as the parts list makes reference to specific right hand drive parts. I recall that the Daf 55 "Marathon" cars were originally ordinary Daf 55 cars, to which the dealer fitted the "Marathon" parts, as requested by the customer and that it was only some time later that the "Marathon" cars were assembled at the factory. Leading on from this, I wondered if the "type 327" was an option the dealer would offer to a prospective purchaser of a Daffodil, who was looking to get (quite) a bit more "va va voom" from his car.
The parts list also makes reference to disc brakes (!) and completely different transmission parts, so it sounds like these cars were significantly more than a few changes to the engine, timing and carburettion!
As anyone ever seen or driven one? I'd certainly like to see if these parts are still available and see if they would fit a 33....A real wolf in sheep's clothing!
