The brake fluid loss is serious and needs to be investigation as a matter of urgency. Are you losing fluid past the seals in the master cylinder or is fluid being lost from the wheel cylinders or disc callipers?
As to the cardboard pipes carrying fresh air to the dashboard vents, these weren't exactly Daf's "finest hour" in design, and numerous substitutes have been tried over the years, including flexible metal piping and thick rubber hoses, similar to those used in air-cooled Dafs.
I'd concentrate on sorting the brakes first. After all, in the words of our local Daf dealer's chief mechanic when my late Father took our 66 in, complaining that the heater was always on and too hot: "wind the window down, mate!" 'Customer care" was an alien concept at this garage and my Father was convinced the mechanic "had been born wearing those overalls!"
Much more help and advice always available here whenever it's needed!
