Hi,
Recently bought a DAF 44 to use for spare parts for my DAF 55.
However, the DAF 44 is in a far too good shape to scrap, in fact in a much better condition than the DAF 55.
I need to repair/refurbish brakes all round as well as the exhaust system.
Also right hand side indicators don't flash/operate so hope to find some electrical diagram for fault finding.
Anybody have tips as to what spare parts are required, and where to get hold of these (incl. P&P to Oslo area in Norway)

The first thing would be to buy an Autobooks workshop manual for your car. These appear on E-Bay regularly, and cover Daf 31,32, 33,44 & 46 cars. They have electrical diagrams and expanded diagrams of the braking system, which would be useful to you. The second thing to do is to join the Daf Owners' Club, if you haven't already done so!
As to your specific problems, the braking system is quite a simple one. although it depends which model of 44 you have. All of the 44 cars have drum brakes, with twin leading shoes, the later cars having a dual line braking system and earlier ones a single line one. The brakes are NOT self-adjusting, so routine adjustment of the shoes is required. Removing and adjusting the shoes is quite simple. The handbrake works on the rear brakes and the fluid is the common J-1703 type, but if the brakes feel spongy, change the fluid and bleed the system!
The main problem with the exhaust is obtaining the parts! The system itself is quite simple, with a single transverse silencer mounted just behind the engine, followed by a single pipe running under the centre of the car and exiting on the near-side (left side, viewed from the rear of the car, looking forwards.) There is also a hot-spot connection, which would be essential in a cold climate like Norway. In England this was sometimes disconnected. I'm considering a stainless steel system, which means I'll never need another one, but they're expensive!
If the indicators work on one side but not the other it's probably a blown bulb in one of the holders. Check them first and clean up the connections before delving any further into the car's electrics.
