You will remember this one. Featured on Bangers & Cash a few years ago. It's up for sale. It looks as if it has been looked after. www.carandclassic.com/l/C1765125

If I bought this one and parked it very close to mine I'd expect to find a "garage" of baby Dafs in a few days......... (To misquote a line from "Fawlty Towers") "they breed, you know!"

So that's a date then! Who gets the pick of the litter? Delivery (sic) of BKU 449L due in a week or so. My first car was BVJ 297B, a Daffodil which I used for 3 years, making way for a Mini van and then my TR6 which I've still got. Present car is a 2021 manual Porsche 718 Spyder so only a factor of 15 in the bhp..... I'll be joining the club when I get the car and chassis numbers etc. Regards Bill

I will do Andrew. I'm trying to find some photos but quite where they are is proving dafficult (sic) but they're here somewhere.... What was good about BKU 497L is that it was registered on 12th April 1973 and I passed my test the following day, a lucky Friday the 13th, so assume the first owner wanted to avoid that day. I can't recall exactly when I bought the Daffodil for £250 but it would have been very soon after passing my test as was just 17 in the February before. It was bought new by one of Mother's friends, a lady schoolteacher with a club foot and she retired. I think it had about 20,000 miles and I took it up to about 40,000 miles in the three years I had it. I'm now on a campaign to find out more about my early ownership! Regards. Bill

Dear Bill,
I've an old "Motoring Which" publication from July 1965 in which (sorry!) the testers compare a 850cc mini, a Fiat 850, a Hillman Husky, a N.S.U. Prinz, a B.M.W. 700 and the Daf Daffodil. The photographs have the vehicles' registration numbers obscured, but it's possible to delineate that all the vehicles were "B" registrations. Your Daffodil was originally registered in Herefordshire, although it doesn't mean that's where it was when you bought it!
REALLY want to hear, read and see more about your Daffodil! I've sat in one but never owned or driven one. I cannot recommend DAF Owners Club membership too highly, particularly if you need help with tracing or checking on registration details. Oddly my first (post test passing) car was a 33; I passed in September 1977 (second time) and bought the 33 for £235 through a local Daf dealer a few days later I owned it for about 5 year; it took me to & from university for 3 years and I still miss it! UAE 254 N where are you now?
