hi all.
my mk1 daf44 insurance is now due for renewal. when i insured the car last year i just gave them an insurance value of £500 as i knew nothing about prices for these cars other than how much I had paid for it (scrap value).
what would be a reasonable insurance value for a roadworthy daf44. especially a mk1 which, according to members on this forum, may be the last one left on the road in britain.
1. What do other members think would be reasonable??? 2. does anyone know of any more mk1s out there??
all help gratefully recieved.
thanks.

if it helps the 44 I just bought had (and has) classic car insurance - in the old documentation there are valuation certificates from 1990,1995 and 1998 all valuing the car at £1000 for replacement value. I discussed this with Performance (my insurance company) they are happy to consider an insured value of £1000 provided I have the car valued and provide them with the certificate and copies of the previous valuation certificates.
I would suggest, given that your one is a MK1 and is also in better nick than my one that you go for £1300
I know it sounds like silly mony for a DAF but it is the insurable value we are talking about here nit just the value of the tin

yup
make sure you get a salvage clause as well.
my Volvo 940 sport is valued by Bell Direct at £500....however, it is a very rare car and independent value isd around £4k so I insure with a specialist who recognises that and will also let me get it back as salvage if wrecked

hi all.
thanks for the adviceon this.
i have just got insurance for my 44. after reading your comments, i made sure to ask about agreed value and salvage.
i have ended up with an unlimited mileage, fully comp policy with an agreed value of £2500 (at no more cost than £750 market value), with agreement to buy back the remains if it is not totally burnt out. also includes guaranteed no claims, full windscreen cover, legal cover, european driving cover, breakdown cover (not homestart)and third party cover on any other vehicle and all i have to do is email 2 photos and fill in a vehicle condition form myself.
i thought this was pretty good for less than £100.
i can thoroughly recommend FOOTMAN JAMES for any insurance.
thanks for all the help
