A new source for parts (maybe?)

I have just returned from my annual holiday in France – we went to Perpignan and a great example of how you can save serious money by running an older car. Ingrid – my Volvo 940 Sport Turbo estate (modified to 275bhp, heh heh heh) who I bought in January with 173000 on the clock for £1000 steamed the 1100 miles from Edinburgh to the Spanish Border and back – up to Souillac in the Dordogne and back (600 miles) in 2 weeks – no problems whatsoever and I was able to bring back 170 lt of wine together with all our luggage.

Anyway, enough on that – last weekend I was in a pub in Souillac which is in the Dordogne and although I was a few sheets to the wind I remembered an important conversation with a Dutch bloke called Jasper. For some reason we got onto the topic of cars and we then started talking about DAFs. I mentioned that I had a 44 recently bought and what a hoot of a car it was. He then told me that he and his father are massive enthusiasts for all things DAF related including early trucks and the cars and for years his father has been collecting parts and has 2 containers worth dry stored. He gave me his card and told me if anyone needs any bits email him, he will pass it on to his dad who will see if he has it in stock and quote for costs and post. Jasper showed me his mint Volvo 340 with Variomatic completely rust free, a really nice example.

I have just tried that link and it does not appear to be working. Does anyone have any other contacts as I am trying to get hold of a new crankshaft oil seal. The DAF is booked into a load of much needed loving in the next few weeks and that is top of the list.

Don't bother using a "Daf" supplier for the oil seals, Scotty. They're off-the-shelf parts from any bearing / seal supplier. I assume you want the front one, in which case it's an SKF 18967. Most places sell them by size rather than part number though and the sizes for that one are:

48 x 65 x 10mm (shaft diameter x housing diameter x seal width). The seal type you want is an R23 (single lip with garter spring)

Bearing King do them for £2.00 + VAT and generally get them to you the next day:

If you use them, be sure to change the postage option in checkout though. It defaults to next day courier at about £7 but there's an option for first class post which will be about £1.20 and still gets to you in a day or so

Excellent. Thanks for the help. One is winging its way to me as we speak.

The cars other owner will be fitting it whilst i do some bodywork as it needs a small amount of fettling to bring it up to standard for the summer shows.

The guide on the Dafmobile site will no doubt be very helpful.
