We thought that you would be interested to know that it is no longer sitting in the corner of the scrap yard. It has "escaped".
Yours truly, in a rather protracted moment of sentimental madness, has bought it. In a move that has gone against my policy of only having one old car/DAF, I felt the need to get it away. As mentioned before, all credit to the scrapyard, who really did have a "soft spot" for it, and were keeping it away from the crane and crusher. (The staff have asked for progress pics and reports!)
But the poor old thing was slowly deteriorating standing in the sun and rain, and as there was very little sign of an imminent rescue, I felt that the time had come.
I had been pondering about it for few weeks, but then a chat with DAF Daffer at Rutland the other week, convinced me to go for it.
So, it is now being looked after by Paul DAF Daffer, who has been a rock in terms of allowing use of his garage. He is also going to put his expert knowledge and skills into getting it better - it does need quite a lot of work - and he will fit this in as and when he can.
When done, it is probably unlikely that I will be able to hold on to it, due to "my policy" but also storage and time issues that I have. But hopefully, we will find it yet another new home.
Paul and I are going to treat it as a "magazine project", so we shall be running articles and pics in club magazines detailing what needs to be and will be done.
So there we are. Do I need therapy?!

Excellent, Richard. I feared it was going to end up down to me again! I'd feel terrible if it ended up being crushed. If you think you need therapy, fear for me as the car I bought for spares is being restored as we speak! Only bad part I've found is the rear valance which has suffered quite badly. There is no sill rot or front wing rot where they usually go, or any of the arches. Only one dent to worry about, too! The headlining has been eaten by something though so I'll need another one of those

John, I can't take any credit for the video nor getting the 55 moving. Both are down to DAFdaffer. I arranged for a recovery truck service to transport the 55 from the scrapyard to Paul's place, and everyting since has been thanks to Paul!
He even did the self-filming of him driving the car back and forth, and did the thing with the carburettor whilst holding the camcorder in the other.
Multi talented, I say!

The daf 55 has changed hands I am now the new keeper. Dafdaffer was finding it hard to put much time in and still get his 44 ready for the daf week in August so he convinced Richard to sell it to me. I am hopping to have it done for the daff week so the race is on. I have met some of you before as i have been to some events with dafdaffer and have worked on every daff he has run so I may be new to daf ownership but not new to dafs. I will post some pics on a restoration thread soon
