Doesn't seem like a bad buy, but if you just want basic electronic you can do it quite a bit cheaper using the existing points. "Transistor assisted" systems (like the old Sparkrites) virtually eliminate points wear anyway and give similar benefits in terms of spark strength. Cost would be around a fiver - you only need about 4 components. Only problem is, you'd probably have to build it yourself nowadays. Us 2 cyl owners don't get the choice - no-one does a 2 cyl breakerless that I can find, let alone a 6v one - so it's make one or nothing As a ready-built, dead easy fit, system that looks like a fair deal. Some of the claims (like reduced oil changes) are a little dubious though!

Thought I would dig up this older post instead of starting a new one. How have your guys experiences been of electronic ignition conversions? I'm considering a Hot-Spark one for my 66, if the 1.3's happened to use Bosch distributors that is. To be honest I'd be happy to pay a bit more for the most reliable system I can get.

I must admit that I tend not to bother with them. I've fitted systems to a couple of cars over the years, including a points driven one to Betty, but the gains really tend not to be that noticable. The only real benefit is the "fit and forget" factor - until they go wrong, of course, at which point they're a lot harder to bodge by the roadside than conventional points system!
Bear in mind that cars drove 100s of millions of miles before electronic ignition arrived, in all sorts of conditions in all parts of the world. As long as they're maintained reasonably, there's no reason to expect points and a condenser to be unreliable!

I guess since I'm new to all this the idea of dropping in a box and wires is a tempting idea. Especially when I'm not really sure how to check the condenser is ok or that the contact points need adjusting or what have you. I've got my head in the Haynes manual though, I'm sure I can figure it out.
