Well, it's here - my lovely 44 arrived safe and sound from Scotland (thank you Garry for your help, as always!). I'm delighted with it, and the big clean up is on - thankfully, it needs very little work that I can see, and I shall be getting it all sorted as soon as I am able! It does need attention to the brakes, as they are a little soft to say the least, and I haven't coaxed the engine into life yet although I am hopeful tomorrow will cure that! Photos will be on here soon!

I have to thank you John, too - for making me see sense! You said I wouldn't regret it, and you were right. Lovely little car that I will enjoy looking after.

Good news is it starts and runs now - will hopefully be running perfectly by the end of the weekend!
Then to get to work on the brakes.......!

Hi Stefan! That's great - have had a word with Paul about them - I didn't realise you lived so close! I'll be up in your area soon, I am sure. I haven't forgotten!!! My DAF 44 problems are finally solved. It took to the roads for the first time in about 10 years today. Very impressed. Until we ran out of fuel! True, it only went ACROSS the road to an adjoining unit but I think it's got used to the idea! Ended up changing absolutely everything on the ignition side of it (although I didn't have a condensor for a late 44 and had to used a second hand late 33 one) but it was mainly the carb causing problems. I filled the carb full of cleaner, ran it, and revved it up quite high before putting my hand over the top. Two goes at this it all cleared and settled down perfectly. Funny how some things work out, but I am now a very happy bunny. Shame I have work tomorrow, as I will just bleed the brakes that are a little soft, and book the MOT.....

Sounds like a goodun howard, paul (dafdaffer) uses transit condensors on his 44 he just trims some of the plastic to fit the dizzy body. yes i live in the same village as paul about five minutes walk away, I have known him about 10 years now. I know what you mean about work getting in the way of playing with cars I did the 55 late summer when i a quiet at work now rushed of my feet 7 days a week so have not touched the volvo 343 much for weeks and i still need to do the cluch on the 46.

She looks very good, did you spray her or was she like that? Paint looks in excellent condition.

Aye, she is scarily good really. I have to keep punching myself to remind me it's a totally original 33 year old car. It's hard because no car is perfect, and whenever I find a small scab of rust or a tiny scratch I get cross - which is stupid, as I should be looking at the bigger picture!!
I'm really fond of her, and will be even more so when she has new tyres and the exhaust finally fitted.....
And to think, I very nearly turned her down......

One thing I must say today is that I moved a lot of DAF's outside to clear a lot of space and cars which I am selling, and it was surprising to see so many people taking photos of them and looking around them! It's surprising how many people didn't have a clue what they were, and those that did were surprised they were right-hand drive.
I suppose it hammers home the fact that these cars are a pretty rare sight these days.
One person I know always mocks my DAF's as he prefers more "fancy" cars, and it was good to see him getting his back up when my little DAF's were getting so much attention!

I have to say that Howard has got a very nice collection in his shop. The 32's look very nice with their wooden dashboards. That 44 is absolutely mint, as we say in Holland "Hij is met zijn gat in de boter gevallen" to get that one. It was nice to meet Howard, went to see Paul44's car in Swansea so stopped over in Bristol as well. Next time I should visit some of the Daffers up north.

It was good to meet you Alex (and indeed Mark) - as I said, soon it will be tidy and more organised, and most should start and move! You're more than welcome, and indeed if you (or anyone) needs storage for anything DAF related then if I have the room, please be my guest! Soon it's going to be a DAF only workshop! I'll carry on saving up and get the 32's professionally sprayed as they deserve nothing less - they're wonderful. Actually, John - I'm responsible for Onne's DAF so it DOES happen. I knew it would be going to a good home - and of course it leaves room for other ones (as in a 55 and 46 to complete the range!).

Likewise Howard. If you ever need any help and I am free, I could come down for a few days. Work on the DAF's or clean up the workshop. Any excuse to take the DAF out for a spin to Bristol.
