hi.
if the car rolls ok then you CAN tow dafs using an A-frame or bar. this will NOT cause problems with the variomatic system.
this may be easier to arrange than a trailer- IF the car is okay to tow. (good tyres/wheels/bearings etc).

they need to be MOTs and taxed/insured as well don't they if you are towing one?
I wonder if my mog would fancy towing an a-framed daf from the west country to nottingham . How much do dafs weigh?

hi onne.
a car does NOT need tax, insurance or MOT if it is being towed on a rigid bar or A-frame. it does need a light board and number plate of the car towing it (trailer board).
if the car is being towed on a bar then the driver in the towed car does need a full driving licence.

Ok, good to know that, you learn something new everyday!
I doubt that my car would enjoy it though.

Well, I was watching a DAF 44 on ebay but it's near Hamburg (yes, Germany lol). I rather towed it here on a trailer than A framing it. As the rules in Germany are different than here, it had no numberplate. Bidding now has gone up and it seems it would a bit too expensive to buy it and pick it up as well. Ferry costs are £144 not to speak of fuel costs lol. Thanks for replying though guys. If I ever need a trailer... By the way, why are you selling your 44 Paul?

I've bought myself an A frame so things should be a bit easier when I move cars.

I usually rent a trailer if I want to get a car sans MOT any distance. iirc, the rental cost from my local trailer-rental place is around 30 quid, plus a 50 quid deposit (per day). I also usually end up hiring a van too; 'cos I've not got a tow bar on any of my vehicles, and even with a braked trailer and a van it can be a bit 'interesting' moving a heavy car

It will get intrestingtowing with a van if it is empty I had the same problem with my old ford ranger pickup it was horrible for towing when empty but if i put about 200kg of sand in the back it was the best tow car i have ever had.
