What an interesting day today. My Blue Bullet 33 has been "resting" for the last few months, mainly due to a significant oil leak from one of the pushrod tubes. It has also had some brake work done prior to getting its MoT at last a few weeks ago. I obtained the new parts with no difficulty, but as you know, I am, er, not very good when it comes to actually carrying this sort of work out. And neither are some of the local garages! So, our very good friend DAF Daffer has, once again, come to the aid of a fellow DAFfer (brought ably by Gladys!) Within a short space of time, singlehandedly, he had managed to take part of the engine apart and replace the tubes, without having to remove the engine! We discovered that it was not so much the tubes at fault, the the little rubber seals had perished. But there's more!! I had suspected for some time that things were not "right" with the transmission, in that it didn't seem to be changing up fully/properly, and the engine was racing too much at 45-50mph. So, in the rather confined space of my garage, Paul then crawled under the back end of the car and immediately spotted that the vacuum pipes were not attached. Bingo! We then took the car for a quick spin up the road, including a steep hill, and, so far so good... Very many thanks to Paul - he did a fab job, and can be recommended to help poorly DAFs. Here are a few pics (hopefully click on the thumbnail and a larger version will appear, but I can't guarantee this: Gladys delivers DAF Daffer and the tools DAF Daffer gets to work on the Blue Bullet The engine ready for new tubes Old and new tubes

Glad to hear the Bullet's sorted, Richard!
Also nice to see that it's possible to get the heads free with the engine still in the car - raises the possibility of a quick top-end job and bore inspection for Betty without disabling her for too long or upsetting the neighbours.
When it gets back above freezing, of course!
