well the original wheels are being refurbed this time round.. ok would you like a small update, having had to go otu this evening at 6 and recover a horsebox ramp and put up some new panels in the horse area (to pay for my car tax) this update is a touch on the small side.. First off time to fill in a few gaps... made some rubber things to sit under the wiper spindle fixings as couldnt find mine anywhere.. Bumper bar fitted to the rear then onto the problem of fixing those chrome trims to the front panel... take an m5 countersunk screw add a bench grinder into the mix and stir well waste half an hour working out where this bit goes, only to find out after sending its picture to essex that its not even a daf part LOL Now for some DSLR pictures courtesy of Caroline and her canon camera.. some idiot with a finished front panel the m5 screws slid up the chrome strip and through the holes ready for bolting.. you wont get these trims off in a hurry thats for sure soon......... sill strips on shine zippin the bolts onto the m5 screws on the front panel rear plate and springy flap on.. door seals are in the openings as are sill trim plates but again no pic.. sorry thats it for tonight... seem to be missing some pics... ill go ave a quick look for them.. here it is... shows the screws slid into that front trim,

late night and scuppered by a flat phone battery type update... have possibly got a late MOT tomorrow or maybe sat morning, (have to work friday now as another fabricator off ill ) first off mount the headlights grind a lathe tool to create a ball type profile then cut down m5 screws to a length suitable for adjusters end result is this... (sorry hard to photograph) next job is to sort out the missing ones of these... Stainless steel tig wire looks stiff enough my version (nearly the same) does it work??? certainly does so that means the headlights can go in, and with it the finalisation of the front end, mounted the horn, front panel, black grill thing, and bumper, and headlights now shes looking like a car smile for the camera Reenie ok missing photos show..... Number plate lights wired in and rear bumper aligned and solid rear lights all fixed and working now fusebox cleaned up and broken fuses replaced side repeaters repaired by putting m5 nutsert into them and redrilling holes in wings to match side repeaters fitted and working without photos it seems a crap update.. still 5 hours worth though........... just found two of them.. when phone is properly charged ill go through it properly...

With the use of my car being of the "heavy everyday variety" I decided the one period extra I could actually do without (sorry purists) was the broken washer fluid squisher thingy on the dash, as with most of the rubber components on the car it had failed and simply washed the floor when I was using it.. I phoned the local factors and ordered a 12v inline water pump and set about wiring it up, I was sat at the wheel when I realised the switch that operates the wipers also had a symbol on it for squirting, pulling it didnt do anything so I got the multimeter out and sure enough, it made a large red wire go live when actuated with ignition on, now this got me thinking, I quickly whipped the pump onto the relay panel under the dash (pipes reached it a treat) and ran the live to the cable on the switch connector block, sure enough it worked a treat. But... it gets even better... On looking under the bonnet I noticed a pair of wires to the side of the brake master cylinder, one of these was red and had some plastic heat shrunk over its connector rendering it unusable, I got the cutters on it and stuck a test lamp on it, got in the car and used the switch again, sure enough, it lit the bulb, the moral of the story is, dont rush and sitck the pump under the dash, the wiring is there ready and waiting under the bonnet plain as the nose on your face. mount the pump next to the bottle, put the pipe going into the bottle onto the part marked "out" on the pump and run a fresh bit into the bottle from the side marked "IN" on the pump and hey presto.. more water than the washer jets have seen in their life.. Ive left mine under the dash for now as reckon one of the models must have a bottle with a built in motor and will fit the original holder, all I have to do is literally plug it in and its good to go.. Stick showing the symbol, barely visible.. Wiring under the bonnet still taped together in the factory tape ;D click the piccy below for some washy action !!

on the photo with the large letter R there are some rubbe grommets with a thin washer between the push rods, where are they from as i found some under the car the other day?

if you mean Goldie then they are mega important, they go between the rocker shaft support posts and the head to stop the oil from running down the lower headstuds, these were missing on the engine I got off you and that was the cause of the huge oil leak it had, the squishy washer bit goes against the head and the washer sits on top to be compressed by the rockers as they are bolted on

aye you'd soon notice if they werent there, I only know this because Matt warned me on facebook earlier to make sure they were put back correctly, mine are a white square section soft pliable washer and a very thin steel washer if that makes sense?

onwards.... need those cases apart so off comes anything bridging them oo so thats where the oil pump is.... (all case bolts loosened before removing this to aid removal) and the comedy OVERSIZE slot that drives the oil pump nothing naskty hiding in here oh hang on... WTF is this? on a plus , the oil pump front plate shows NO wear I can feel with a fingertip, just a polish mark looks positively tiny with the rods tucked in..

found some time this afternoon in the schedule to get some more done on the car had been struggling to get the flywheel bearing out, had tried expanding masonry bolts etc, all to no avail, in the end I hooked the head of an m10 bolt behind the bearing and going around it in 3rds I eventually crept it out of the housing the flywheel bolts had no locking tab, but had been put in with copious amounts of blue loctite to the point I had to get Caroline to hold the cases whilst winding them out back of engine cases dont look too bad, (Joe have you got the number for the oil seals as might as well do them whilst its out) with the last two bolts out either side of the camshaft (with a locktab behind them) the engine cases came apart with a few gentle blows of a rubber mallet revealing the simple beauty of a boxer engine in all its glory Also found the rest of the camshaft oil baffle plate that I had "lost" and after piecing it together with its other remainder I think I figured out where it goes, well i hope it goes there.. cant seem to fit it in anywhere else..

The main bearings all feel really good and rotate lovely and smoothly with no feelable rocking (not stripping the crankshaft down-just the big ends will get a look at) couldnt figure out why this oil feed hole wasnt on the oil journal part of the bearing till I realised it is an anti rotation peg hole it locates on this to stop the main bearing rotating in the cases other main bearing also has one can only presume this oil feed hole leading OUT from the other side case is to feed the oil gallery that feeds the tappets(then the pushrods and the valve gear respectively) thats it for now, needed a cuppa to thaw my hands out
