It's being economical and ingenious After all, the money we all pay with has two sides, why not use both!

These flexi brake hoses have been available from us for, ooh, at least 15 years.
They're top notch quality. Aircraft spec, in fact. I had some fitted to my old 55 at the same time that I had some Spax adjustable dampers fitted (again obtained at the time via the DOC). Actually, thinking about it, it was 1985, so we have been supplying them for 24 years or so!
I suspect that the hoses and dampers have outlived my old Yellow Peril 55.
I now have a new set of these flexi hoses on the Blue Bullet.

I can't wait to put them under pressure For whoever is interested, a quick layout of costs so far apart from the purchase of the actual car: Collection: 50,00 Brake spanner: 4,00 Nuts/Bolts/ Clips: 20,00 6V Battery: 79,95 Flexi hoses: 25,00 Brake shoes: 8,00 Brake cylinders: 12.20 And a cold...

Sorry to read about the cold - not surprised though, as the weather really is cold and raw. When DAF Daffer was sorting the Bullet out the other day, I felt a bit of a wimp, because my feet were like blocks of ice, but poor old DAF Daffer was over and under the DAF - and it was freezing!
If it's any consolation, I'm a bit bunged up and chesty at the mo too. May have to have a sip of Jeigermeister (which doubles up as a good cough medicine, allegedly) I believe it's German, but was introduced to Steve (DOC founder and parts guru) and me many years ago by, funnily enough, some Dutch DAF friends!

Best served straight out of the freezer... That is lovely stuff, and indeed German ( but the Dutch consume a fair bit of it) If Jagermeister starts to freeze when left outside overnight it's too cold to go to work Can you get it over here?

Ha!! There's a danger of me breaching my new policy of going off topic here, but hey, who will notice?
But yes, it is available here, including a well known supermarket that professes low prices (actually they are) and starts and ends with an "A".
(PC note - we are not advocating the drinking of spirits or indeed any other strong spirits)

John, the braided hoses have been sourced for and from the DOC for many years. I had them on my old 55, and now on the 33. The club sells them.

Could we not have a page on the DOC website of what the club has in it's stores and how much it sells for. Just like on the Dafhobby site. It might be easier for us down south to see what we can and can't order from the club. ;D

Sorry that we are hijacking Isabel!
Veeruk - Good idea re having the parts list published on here. I'll look into it (I don't have the up to date list - parts and bits are not my side of the club)
I'm pretty sure that club members receive a parts list as part of their initial welcome pack, but I do accept that these things can go missing and indeed become out of date.
We'll see what can be done.

I don't mind the hijack As soon as I have Isabel on the road I will become a member of the DOC. The update on the car: I have now got all the parts for the brakes, and have two days of this week (Thursday and Friday) I am not sure how I'll remove the drums (I have hardly got any tools as I am still in the middle of moving) Maybe I can even book her in for an MOT on Friday!

Excellent, I will do my very best to get the cylinders on, but I haven't got many tools... Could I put the wheel back on the drum for extra leverage? I hope those Mini cylinders fit nicely

Well done, Onne! These 33s do seem to pass better than anything I've ever known. I think that's 3 in a row on here with 1st time passes after being off road - I guess design simplicity in cars has its benefits

Just for my record and whoever is interested I intend to keep a log on this thread on the work and maintenance I do, and also of the fuel used (I do like a bit of number crunching) 09/01/09 MOT passed ODO 19441 17 litres (7/8s full) 10/01/09 Brassington meet ODO 19526 14 litres (full) about 37 mpg

I tightened up the belts today, as far as I can see there is about 1mm space in between the pulleys.
She does make a lot more noise now, is that to be expected or are the belts too tight?
Also, she has started leaking oil... a fair bit of it too from the front.
Any idea what that can be? Oil cooler?

Betty became noticeably more noisy on "first move of the day" after I tensioned hers but no real difference once she's been moving for a 1/4 mile or so. It's worth getting a set of feeler gauges in there rather than relying on eye though. I found it easiest to reach from in front of the wheels - no need to jack the car up. Also, remember to roll it back & forwards a bit in between adjustments / measurement. Otherwise you'll need to over tension them to get a gap at all - as you roll the car they get a chance to settle into place but if you don't they have to force the pulleys open with a pure "wedge" action which takes a lot of force! As for the oil leak, could be cooler or front crank seal from that area - getting the fan off should help you see which. Pretty sure I saw somehwre on here that the seal is easily available and can be fitted with the engine in place so not too much of a worry if it's that

I did move the car forward and backwards on a flat surface, but only prior the adjustment.
What happens if the belts are too tight?

Another thing, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what colour my 33 is?
I know it's red.... but what kind of red? I know DAF had all sorts of lovely names for their colours.

You end up in too high a gear all the time, and the belts will be a little more prone to breaking - especially if they're old. Over extended use it may also cause problems with the pulley bearings at a guess.
Recheck them when you get a chance - having moved it since they should have settled and you may find the gap has widened a bit.

I will have another look in a bit, it's not very easy in my garage.
Garage is barely 6'6" wide. the DAF fills it up, and that is saying something!

Hello again Onne. Given that Isabel hails from 1970/71ish, I would think that the red is "Rosita".
Later year reds were "inferno".
Paint/codes are still available should you wish to get some paint made up in the correct shade. Of course, as sometimes happens with red cars, years of exposure to ultraviolet light and weather can cause the colour to fade, often to a more pinky colour.
The Volvo 300 Mania chaps who saw my 340 for the first time yesterday, commented that most red 340s have gone pink!
