Also on this note I have been hearing this clunk from up front. Found the reason today: How it SHOULD look: The other side however has a slight problem: I did wonder why the steering is so loose... Can we still get these rubbers?

Yes, this is something of a record. Keep it going though - we don't want to be stuck on 13 for too long!

Very true, we don't want to be on this page on Friday Weather permitting I will fit the rubber tomorrow. Shouldn't take long, just hope the blessed remains of the old rubber come off easy enough. Also did the MPG test on the Minor ODO 14393 - 14531 = 138 miles used 22, 05 litres = 4,85 Imperial Gallons 29 mpg. So the DAF isn't doing that badly really. I bet they can both do mid forties on the long run.

I hope not... I do have puller I might be able to use on it. You've got me worried now! I did manage to get the split pin out, which I though was impressive (I can never get them out on the Morris Minor )

Changed the rubber today I also noticed the reason for the rubber to shear, one of the shock absorbers has had it, it is locked solid. I have heard that Mini ones fit, but which ones? I will do both sides of course when I do them. Cheers

I'd rather replace them first and then rebuild the old ones...

Seems there is a misunderstanding here.....
AFAIK there is nothing on a Mini that will replace the <front> shocks on a DAF.
It is alleged that DAF rear shocks can be replaced by certain Mini components. There has been several threads about this.

Pete H.

Makes sense... Mini ones are very different indeed.

Have you got a workshop manual for it, Onne? the front struts don't look too hard to strip down. Doubt you can still get the cartridges, but a good clean out and refill with oil will be a huge improvement over seized solid!

I'll try that next weekend I think. I'd better get that Morris Minor on the road again first. Her battery is on charge, that should hopefully make a difference

09/01/09 MOT passed ODO 19441 17 litres (7/8s full) 10/01/09 Brassington meet ODO 19526 14 litres (full) about 37 mpg 17/01/09 Three days to work and back and a trip into Derbyshire ODO 19653 22.5 litres about 25 mpg (127 miles, 4,96 gallons) (Just for John The Bear 20.8 MPG (US)) 27/01/09 ODO 19791, 20,2 litres on 138 miles 31.8 MPG 18/02/09 ODO 20052 22 litres (must must have forgotten an entry because she sure as anything hasn't done 53 mpg. More than likely half that as normal as it has been ever so cold.

After our 49 mpg trip to Chester on Staurday, don't be so sure about that 53 mpg from Isabel, Onne!

Not doing only city driving with a leaky inlet manifold... Must get that sorted, the fuel pours out at times, can't be good

I am having some trouble at the moment when driving in the dark, she tends to stall very easily, also there are lots of flat spots on acceleration, if I pull away I sometimes need to feather the throtlle otherwise she will not pick up.
Another annoying thing is the fact that she will not pull away up the hill where I live when she is on choke, as I can't get the revs up.
Also the kickdown doesn't seem to work anymore.
Any ideas?

That manifold leak would be a favourite for all of those if you haven't sorted it yet.
Weak mixture to one cylinder will really mess up running on choke (one too weak, the other too rich to compensate), flat spots accelerating are a classic weak mix sign on any engine (hence accelerator pumps on carbs) and in the dark you have the lights taking extra power which an engine running weak will have trouble supplying at idle.

Hopefully I should get a replacement hose soon, Howard has sent me one That should hopefully cure most of the niggles, and make her idle better too

Hi Folks Get the engine running on it own, disconnect the vacuum pipe and tune the engine. If that is running OK, then connect the vacuum pipe, there should be no difference at tick over, if there is, the carburetter valve is set wrongly or you have a leak in the pipe. On increasing the engine speed you if start to get a flat spot or the engine quits means you have a vacuum leak in the transmission side.
Regards Bob.

I will see, maybe I will need to change the vacuum hoses front and back, they're all 40 years old after all.
Any suggestions as to where I can get the pipe for it? Is it a standard diameter for the Vario part?
