Now that's being prepared ;D Funny that the pressure plates and release bearings seem to crop up quite often - in fact, I think I saw Canleys offering pressure plates from stock - but the friction bit that you actually need is harder to find. When this one turns up I may well fit it and look at getting the old one re-lined before it wears down to the rivets - two plates should out-last the car (and me) fairly comfortably

She is, and I intend to live forever as well. But if you drive properly, a clutch plate can also last virtually indefinately. So that's two effectively eternal clutch plates to outlast one eternal car.
Given that we can easily prove mathematically that there are many different sizes of infinity (and, hence, many different eternities), the two eternal clutches will outlast the eternal car and me ;D

Safety warning
DO NOT repeat DO NOT undo your subframe mounts without first supporting the subframe with stands or jacks as it will drop on your foot and that really really really hurts!!!
End of safety warning.
Bushes on the mounts have been replaced as it proper hurt rubber on center mount tore as numpty undid both side mounts with no supports.

There's slot to be said for steel toe cap boots! I got my pair of Di ckies from my local Machine Mart for less than £20 and for piece of mind they are well worth it.

Photo update time. Another load of work complete that was 100% worse than it looked at first glance. Bottom of wing was cut off to give access to jacking point which revealed that there wasn't much structure to the leed end of the sill left especially after attack with knot wheel. Next set about repair new metal welded in to give some thing to build a new structure for the end of the sill from. Forgot to take a picture of the next step but it was to weld a top panel in to close the sill. To which we welded this shaped and solid. Ground tidied and seam sealed. It doesn't follow the original design but is strong. I will have to watch out for dirt trapping on top though. 2 more bits of metal to be let in then the bottom of the wing can go back on. Full day of work on this tomorrow and it will hopefully end up finished. Paul p.s. this rot had been hidden by soaking some old rags in underseal and glueing them on top such that it actually looked strong here.

Good stuff Paul and glad to see you having a crack at it. My welding is attrocious and I don't bother anymore as I never got past 'lesson one in welding for dunces' so hat's off to you.

The last part of project Bruce is issued today. More extensive rot to the sill in hindsight I would have replaced the whole thing with repair panels. The end of the sill got a plate and some underseal. The completed forward structure of the front of the sill all nice and solid. Nicely undersealed ready for the wing to go on Oh joy more unforseen rot nice plate at the back of the sill sorted that one welded inn Wings back on and a nice skim coat of filler to smooth it all up Then work started on the engine bay. Strut was removed and the casing pulled back into place. The seams where then welded back down and a plate was applied at the back of the strut. A layer of sealant finished it off The same was then done on the other side. After that we tackled some other general holes which where done to put the MOT tester in a good mood. Bonnet corner Other places where some of the wheel arches and the top of the wing and A pillar. Then on went the paint. Sill Then I got creative Bruce got some fetching eyebrows and the black paint was extended around the arch. All outside washed and waiting for an MOT tomorrow fingers crossed. Need to get some green paint made up to cover the grey patch and then after a nice polish this car might just start to look the part! Hope you enjoyed the update as it took an hour to type. Paul

;D ;D ;D Welcome to my world Paul!! Great report and in an hour is impressive, I must be very slow! Some nice work going on there, good luck with the MOT. I'll look forward to the next report (and also look into why my photobucket is so slow).

got more work to do ;(
I have a nasty suspicion the master cylinder may be buggered. It was all working fine then today I noticed the pedal felt a bit spongey. Im hoping playing with adjusters may sort it. Although they were adjusted for the MOT the car has done 1000 miles since so is concievable. Fluid levels correct and no wetness around slave cylinders which all look good anyway. Pipes not ballooning this is not boding well.

Air in system or normal feel of the brakes on these. nis-adjustment will give a low pedal (too close to the floor) but not a spongy one. The only things that will make spongy feel are brake fluid compressing (air in it) or flexi hoses expanding (knackered).
The 1300s have fairly big caliper pistons on the front with no servo, so they have a fairly small master cylinder bore to create enough pressure for the calipers. That means that there is always more movement on the pedal than you'd expect with a modern disk setup or an all-drum system.
As for needing adjustment after 1k miles - if that's the case then you must drive like a maniac!

I think Mr Spunkymonkey is right. [red face on]played with the adjusters some adjustment required still a spongey pedal. Pulled the cap of the master cylinder reservior off empty!! I think ive found my problem [redface off] Also noted crystalisation e.g. dried brake fluid on outside of reservior and cylinder. I think the seal for the cap my be to blame. easy fix if so keep checking the fluid levels and top up before it gets below the intake pipe level.

DARVIT this isn't what I wanted to find at all Had the parcel shelf off to have a better look. With it off and a good torch and can see that there is very little seapage around the pedal but a lot of grease as well. Should the area be greased. It is grease not congieled brake fluid as it doesn't stink and is jet black. Unfortunalty master cylinder is confirmed as I can see a slight seapage of fluid from around the piston on the peddle as it goes into the the back of the master cylinder. whilst down there I noted that the clutch cylinder is leaking as well although that is visible from under the bonnet unlike the brakes. anyway a couple of pics that ive taken show what im trying to describe. Once i got the parcel shelf off I could see what it looked like down here. You can just see a glisten of fluid around the piston I think this seal is the culprit. As you can see the master cylinder from under the bonnet doesn't look like its leaking, yes there is dried fluid and a lot of tarnishing but its all old and dry and the clutch one looks a lot worse. On the subject of fluid my dashpots eats oil. Today bring the second top up in 700 miles. Paul
